How to Unclog Condensate Drain on Air Conditioner
Locate power switch for AC unit, and switch it to off position. This can be done at main circuit breaker for AC unit or on subpanel for unit, if one is installed.
Look for tail end of condensate drain line for AC unit. This may be located on outside of house. Common locations are near foundation or beneath eaves on roof. These are typically made out of PVC pipe, especially in newer systems. Check that end of drain pipe is free and clear of any blockages. Brush away any leaves, twigs or debris. Insert few inches of plastic tubing into pipe end to clear up any blockages inside.
Locate drain pan for AC unit. This is mounted beneath evaporator, which is part of AC located on inside of house. Typical installation points include attic or basement.
Vacuum out any standing water in drain pan with shop vac. Look for outlet in drain pan where drain hose is attached. Clear away any mold or mildew from front of outlet with brush.
Insert flexible tubing into drain opening. Continue to push tubing into drain tube until you feel it meet blockage. Move hose back and forth several times in area of blockage to help clear it out.
