Troubleshoot Why Air Conditioner Leaks Water - Improper installation and clogged filters are important reasons for air conditioners, window units in particular, may have problems with water leaks. Excess moisture can accumulate in the group until it turns into water leaks. Or moisture can cause air conditioner losses when water accumulates faster than the device's drainage system may divert the flow to the outside. some basic adjustments during test unit can stop the losses and to avoid chaos.
How to Troubleshoot Why Air Conditioner Leaks Water
Unplug air conditioner from its electrical outlet or shut off its power source in breaker box before attempting any troubleshooting.
Raise window slightly while holding front of air conditioner to lower unit and close window. unit should hang about 1/4 inch lower at rear than front control panel that is inside room. This allows water buildup to run off unit's bottom channels and drip harmlessly onto ground outside.
Insert tip of metal wire into drain hole on underside of air conditioner. Work wire into hole to remove any obstructions or dirt that could be preventing water from draining properly. If water cannot flow out of drain hole, it will build up until it seeps through front of unit.
Clean air conditioner filter to improve its air flow, which reduces condensation buildup and any resulting leaks. filter screen is typically located behind front vents. Hold screen dirty side down under kitchen faucet and rinse it until it is clean, then blot dry with cloth or paper towel and return to its slot.
Seal outside of air conditioner with strips of duct tape, taping around extensions on each side of unit and along top and bottom edges where unit meets window frame. This prevents air leaks that not only help air conditioner to operate more efficiently, but reduces humidity that can cause water to build up in unit.
